Bodybuilding Legend Clancy Ross Passes Away
Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 13:36 Clancy Ross was a bodybuilding Mr. America in 1945 who still wanted to stay fit at 84.
Born October 26, 1923
Oakland, California, USA
While John Grimek was termed “The Monarch of Muscledom”, Clarence “Clancy” Ross was known as “The King of Bodybuilders”.
This accolade was awarded not so much for actual titles won, but more for how his presence and aura lifted the sport. Ross’ name became legendary because of his proportionately blended muscularity, his graceful posing style and the aesthetics that earned him major magazine exposure.
Ross was part of an elite Oakland-trained group of bodybuilders who emerged just after World War II. In a seven-year period, five Oakland musclemen became either the professional or amateur Mr. America. Ross was the first.
From that group came Hollywood film star Steve "Hercules" Reeves and fitness guru Jack LaLanne, although the latter wasn't ever crowned Mr. America. Ross was invited to join LaLanne for an upcoming fitness celebration in Sacramento before his death from cardiac arrest at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Walnut Creek.
"He'll remain part of bodybuilding history forever," said his son, Lance Ross, 46, who lives in San Lorenzo.
Ross was both amateur and professional Mr. America (1946) before becoming Mr. USA (1949) and Mr. World (1953).
As a child growing up in Alameda, Ross was given up for adoption along with two brothers and a sister. He spent his youth in foster homes and orphanages. Bodybuilding brought him stability and recognition.
After a long life of training and competition Clarence Ross became a writer with the Weider publications and other magazines, Gym owner and Manager and a successful businessman. He still follows a daily training regimen.

Ross must never be forgotten by the thousands he has inspired and for his great personal successes. Clarence Ross truly has earned a place in bodybuilding history as THE KING OF BODYBUILDERS.
Ross donated his body to science.
Wayne DeMilia summer barbeque.....
Friday, May 9, 2008 at 12:20
This was a great party at Wayne DeMilia's house. Wayne is one of the best guys and for a long time ran the IFBB.
During 9/11, I owed him money for advertising at one of his shows. Business took a dive for a few months and it was difficult for me to come up with the money that I owed him. I told Wayne I was having money issues. He said "pay me when you can, not a problem." He was extremely grateful that I paid him when business picked up again. In this sport things do not usually work this way.
I know my viewers do not like when I show photos of male bodybuilders. Not sure why. Sorry if I pissed anyone off again.
Male bodybuilders love to show off. If you ask a guy bodybuilder to drop his pants before a bodybuilding competition, down they go. I over heard one of the guys saying he takes "stuff" that they add to explosives to get bigger and leaner along with some other really strange chemicals mixed together. Whatever works! I was worried that he might blow up while I was standing next to him.Last I heard he blew up. Sad story.

Champion Day at Strong & Shapely Gym
Monday, March 10, 2008 at 23:59 I found this old photo gallery from Bob Bonham's gym from May 20, 2001.
Bob used to have these great private parties each year for the top bodybuilders and people in the industry. It was called Champion Day. Bob's gym is named Strong & Shapely and is one of the last hard core bodybuilding gyms around still. Maybe I can talk him into having another one of these great parties where all the athletes train together for the day. I was talking to Rob Wilkins in this photo.
Here are some of Robs very informative articles
Rob is married to Amy Yanagisawa Wilkins and they have the most beautiful baby boy whose name is also Robert. I met him at the Arnold Classic last week for the first time.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and fans at Arnold Classic 2008

Dexter Jackson Arnold Classic 2008 just before the finals
Monday, March 3, 2008 at 12:29 Dexter Jackson backstage moments before his victory Saturday night at the Arnold Classic 2008. He told me he was cold and headed into a small private room. The room smelled of vomit and I warned him, he laughed and paused before he entered. Afraid to touch him and mess up his perfectly oiled physique. Dexter is a great guy and has always been one of favorite male bodybuilders of all time.
